End Cottage is located within the designated Conservation Area of Edwalton and sits within one of the oldest parts of the village.
The existing site comprised an attractive semi-detached cottage, in need of considerable repair, constructed from red brick with a red tile roof, and an attractive landscape with established mature trees. An unsympathetic separate garage was located adjacent to the property.
The client approached Design Haus to assist in creating a sympathetic extension that would replace the dilapidated garage and provide extra space.
In addition to the extension's design, our involvement included adapting the internal layout to provide a larger bedroom, and the opportunity for a guest room and home office which involved utilising some existing spaces to provide additional storage.
The design process included early consultation with the local planning authority through a pre-application submission to identify any potential problems before a full planning application was submitted.
On completion, the extension included brickwork detailing to match the existing property, an additional split-level living space, adapted landscaping to meet the new addition and a new carport crafted in oak to remain in keeping with the character of the area
In terms of interior design, our clients embraced bold, heritage colours for their kitchen and interior cabinetry through a palette of rich reds and dark blue hues the home strikes a perfect balance of contemporary, yet period styling.
