Description

Design Haus were appointed to create a new residential property within the town of Southwell, a residential area in Nottinghamshire.

The site is situated within Southwell Conservation Area, located adjacent to Southwell War Memorial and surrounded by traditional English garden boundary walls which play a crucial part in the quality of the public realm within the conservation area.

To preserve the surrounding landscape, the proposed dwelling has been positioned on the site of the existing bungalow.

Much of the liveable space commonly used every day has been directed to face South into the client's garden, providing two positives: giving the clients pleasing views and limiting overlooking towards the neighbour’s property. It is our intention for the completed building to sit comfortably within its surroundings and respect the character of the area.

The materiality of the proposed scheme seeks to reference and sympathise with the surrounding context. The primary material for the proposal is red facing brick in Flemish bond. It is our intention that the external openings have limestone cill and headers to match the façade details of the historical buildings in the area.
