Description

The Field Strelley Eco-Centre aims to provide the local community with a place to reconnect with nature and build skills for sustainable living.

The proposal seeks to redevelop a nine-acre field of previously agricultural land in Strelley Village, into a haven for wildlife and environmental education.

To complement the ecological restoration the site will provide a much-needed eco-centre open to the public and volunteers, for environmental education, skill building and community use.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn from nature, participate in the creation and maintenance of ecosystems and habitat.

The form of the proposed community hub has been shaped in reaction to two factors. The entrance at the corner of the plot and the view down and across the meadow.

The proposed predominant material for the façade is rammed earth. Prefabricated blocks of large format of up to 1 metre in length are assembled forming masonry planes. These blocks are rich in natural tonal variations and contain 10x less embedded carbon than that of conventional brick.
